Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Mindful of Podcast. My name is Tabitha McDonald, I'm an intuitive and transformation coach, and this is episode 19. Today I'm talking about the gift of time, and this is part of a short series on my Mindful of Podcast about the 12 gifts that you can give to your future self, and time is probably the most beautiful gift that you can give your future self. So often we are just bogged down with the heaviness of our busy lives and if you've had kids or you have a career and a family, or you know, if you're the one who's home, making sure it all flows correctly and smoothly, you know how precious time is and for me, time is my biggest love language. That the quality time to me is is the love language that speaks to me the most. And when I really started on the path of self love and caring about myself, the way that I cared about other people, I thought you know what I'm going to start giving myself time, because quality time with myself is basically what I need. And I started really getting to know myself in that time and I talked to a lot of people all day long about their challenges to crafting out time for themselves, and one of my coaches said we all have the exact same number of hours in the day. It's just how you use them and how you budget them. And that really resonated with me, because I realized that a lot of my time budget was on things that were not important to me. They were important to other people and it wasn't on the other people, it was on me, or never really understanding what was important to myself. And so I started crafting out time for myself, and the past three years specifically, I have really dedicated my mornings to meditation and mindfulness practices, and it was not easy at first. I do not have a brain that likes to be quiet. My brain is very active and very busy and it's great because I use a form of meditation that works with that in my brain. I don't expect it to be quiet. I direct it in the morning. I use meditations like the six phase meditation or a wisdom process where I really allow myself to focus on my future and what I'm creating. And that's what I mean by gifting your future self. The gift of time is that when you allow yourself to visualize your future and you allow yourself that time, that gift of time to envision what you want your future to be, you start behaving and acting in accordance with that future version of you. You don't always have to know what that person looks like or what they do, but what you can start doing is flowing into their energy.

Speaker 1:

So if you think about something, maybe, that you're not super happy with in your life right now maybe it's a relationship or health or financial, maybe it's just where you live or you don't like your boss just think about something that you're not happy with right now and if you connect with the emotion of it, you probably feel stuck, a little bit disempowered, hopeless. That's how I was most of the time and I thought oh, if I just keep working harder and if I just keep doing and if I'm just busy, then I'll work my way out of the problem. Like, if I research more diets or exercise programs, maybe I'll finally get fit. And the problem is is in that model we're not giving ourselves the time to listen to what the lesson is trying to teach us or to hear the solution that's easier than the one that we think. So, like a lot of the time people spend, it's the 80-20 rule, 80% of the time getting like 20% of the work done and probably botching that, but that's okay. So if you think about it like there is 20% of effort and productivity that gets you to the result that you want and most of us spend time doing the other 80%. So when we gift ourselves the time of meditation and connecting in with our future self, we get the key or the secret ingredients to that 20% that's going to yield us the 80% of the results. So we actually in that time, in that space of giving us ourselves time, even if it's I have a 14 minute wisdom meditation that I do and I have one that's four minutes, just depending on how much time I want to spend on it or how distracted I am at the moment. But like what it does is it gives me the 20% of the activities that are going to yield 80% of the results.

Speaker 1:

And I love that meditation, especially when I'm working in business or I'm working with family or you know health goals or financial goals. All of that Because now I have more time. It's like making this huge investment. But most of us think of meditation or mindfulness practices like it's taking time from us, but the truth is it gives us time because when we are quiet and in the stillness of our mind comes the answer that our future self has for us. And when we start learning to align with that future self, they'll guide us how to make the most efficient use of our time now.

Speaker 1:

And I love that gift now because I can't imagine not giving myself time in the morning to reflect on where I'm going, connect with the version of me that I am becoming and asking for wisdom and guidance about how to create my day in a way that's going to make sure that that beautiful reality comes true. And that means tapping into that future version of me, asking for advice, connecting in with the emotion and then carrying through my day with that energy, with the energy and the momentum of that future version of me. It saves me a ridiculous amount of time, Like it's this beautiful gift of time and everyone thinks that we don't have enough of it, but the truth is most of us just waste it or we give it away like it's not the most precious, treasured commodity on the planet, because it is one of the only resources you can't really get back. So I would just love to leave you with the thought of how can you gift yourself time, your future self-time? Maybe it's trying.

Speaker 1:

A, you know, 10-minute meditation in the morning, visualizing yourself where you want to be and then aligning your energy with it. Or maybe it's taking 10 minutes to do some breath work and centering and regulating your nervous system so that you have a healthier internal health, better mental health, better emotional well-being. It'll give you mental clarity, focus. You'll have better relationships, because when we're present, instead of allowing timelines to pull us away from the present moment, we have a deeper, more authentic connection, not only with ourselves, but with our loved ones as well.

Speaker 1:

So I'd love for you all to think about a way that you could gift your future self time today, how you can make that time investment in yourself that your future self will benefit from and, to be honest, so will your present day self. And if you're interested in learning more techniques, I do have a couple of meditations on my YouTube channel. I'm constantly building and adding to it, but I'm also launching Soma Tribe this January, which is my monthly membership program, and part of that program is teaching my students how to create more time for themselves so that they can have more empowered lives that are also intuitive and joyful and one of their own creation, instead of reacting to life. I hope you enjoyed today's podcast episode and drop me a line or follow me on Instagram at mindfullovelove and tell me how you're creating more time for yourself in the new year. Thank you so much.
